10 Self-Care Tips for Black Women Reclaiming Their Joy and Peace in 2025

In May of 1962, Malcolm X delivered a speech in Los Angeles where he gave of the most prolific quotes about Black women that people still talk about today:
"The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the Black woman. The most neglected person in America is the Black woman."
Well — after decades of persevering which has entailed everything from code switching and dimming our glow to working twice as hard only to get paid half as much, I think it's safe to say we're all pretty much over it. Not to mention, the 2024 election cycle had more drama and plot twists than Scandal. Everybody and their mama was taken on an emotional rollercoaster.
With 2025 upon us and God knows what lying ahead, the time has finally come where Black women are kicking off their heels, taking off their capes, and stuffing them in the farthest corners of their closets. We're tired of trying to save folks who don't really wanna be saved and showing up for causes without anyone thinking twice about pouring into us in return.
If you can relate, sis, this next year is full steam ahead for prioritizing your health, your joy, and your sanity. Selfish season is on and poppin' and these 10 self-care tips can help you go about it guilt free.
1. Reclaim Your Morning
Start your day with something that brings you peace, whether it’s meditation, prayer, journaling, or a cup of tea in silence. Your mornings set the tone for the day, so claim that time for yourself.
2. Set Boundaries Like a Pro
No is a complete sentence. Protect your time and energy by setting boundaries with work, family, and even friends. Remember, you’re not obligated to be everything for everyone.
3. Invest in Your Joy
Do more of what makes you happy. Whether it’s picking up a new hobby, dancing like no one’s watching, or traveling solo, prioritize activities that spark joy.
4. Prioritize Rest
Rest is revolutionary. Take those naps, log off social media, and embrace guilt-free relaxation. You don’t have to earn rest; it’s your right.
5. Create a Skincare Ritual
Your skin deserves love and care. Create a skincare routine that feels luxurious and reminds you to pamper yourself daily. And, yes, always wear your sunscreen!
6. Surround Yourself with Love
Curate your circle with people who pour into you. Whether it’s your girlfriends, family, or a supportive community, invest in relationships that uplift and inspire you.
7. Celebrate Your Wins
Big or small, take time to acknowledge your accomplishments. Treat yourself to something special or simply say, “I’m proud of me.” You’re doing amazing, sis.
8. Nourish Your Body and Soul
Eat foods that make you feel good and nourish your body. And don’t forget to feed your soul too—read books, listen to uplifting music, or indulge in spiritual practices that ground you.
9. Unplug Regularly
Take a break from the digital world. Schedule regular detox days to disconnect from screens and reconnect with yourself.
10. Give Yourself Grace
Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is. Be kind to yourself, forgive your mistakes, and remember that you’re deserving of love and care just as you are.
